What’s New Balance’s favourite colour? Grey. Which is why the Boston-based brand invites us to celebrate Grey Day, a special day in the calendar to honour the shade and to unveil grey silhouettes that keep the truly timeless tone and legacy alive. Grey is more than just a colour to New Balance, its part of its heritage. A bold design decision back in the ‘80s for runners, it went against the status quo of box-fresh white, creating the blueprint for normcore styles to come.
As part of the four-shoe line-up is this 990v4 Made in USA, which makes its return after sitting the shadows. The muted palette lets the signature suede and mesh tooling come to the forefront, the recipe which New Balance has perfected.
Hairy overlays are accented with navy underlays and “N” logos while mesh peeks out at the toe and collar. Contrasting the shadowy shade is a creamy ENCAP cushioned midsole complimenting the buttery suede nubuck heel. Neutral yet impactful, they showcase the limitless possibilities of grey.
